I found the problem of not receiving when I upgraded
to 1229 to be dtr and rts was not being raised when
nos was started.  In previous versions it was taken
care of for you.  I added the following commands
to my autoexec.nos file right after the attach command.

param <iface> dtr 1
param <iface> rts 1

A breakout box on the cable going to the packet controller
confirmed this fix. (I don't remember who gave the
original hint for this fix, sorry)
