NOS ASY problem

Has anyone else experienced a fairly severe slowdown of COM ports under
NOS GRI v1.7j?

I run my PC, a regular XT type, in several other comm and packet programs at
9600 baud without problem.  I used to do so in NOS.  With the new release,
however, I get many overruns and dropped characters as low as 1200 baud.  I
can run the ports at 300 successfully but this, of course :^), leaves much
to be desired.

I'll be changing to a 286 or 386sx motherboard soon, which should cure it but
I'd still be interested in hearing any ideas about the cause.
